Commonly Found- Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Turkey, Western Australia, Nevada

Common Colors- almost clear, yellow, orange, red

Hardness- 3.5 - 5

Special Care- Opal is the most delicate of the precious stones. All opals contain

some water and should be kept away from high heat.  They are a very soft stone

and should always be worn with care.  They are porous and are affected by acids

and chemicals.  If an opal is to be put in storage for lengths of time it should be

stored in some form of moist cloth or cotton.

Mystical Healing Properties- Fire opal is used to spice up relationships and bring

the wearer new ideas.  It has been used by merchants to draw in customers and

increase wealth.  In ancient times it was thought to grant the wearer invisibility,

or at least to make the wearer harder to see.
