Alloy composition's - Many. Pure gold is known as 24 karat gold and is very soft (can be scratched with a fingernail). Different parts of the world have different common alloys ranging from around 9 karat to pure gold. America most commonly uses 10 and 14 karat gold. Europe uses 9, 10, 12, 14, 14, 16, and 18 karat gold, and Asian countries like to use 18 , 20, 22 and 24 karat gold.
Most commonly used - In every society throughout all of human history humans have sought after gold. Used for jewelry, ornamentation, statues, woven into clothing, religious items, and much more. It is an incredibly malleable metal in its pure form; a single gram of pure gold can be pounded into a sheet 3 square feet in size. Gold has a very low resistance electrically speaking and is often used for connections in computers and other electrical equipment.
